Artificial intelligence has become an essential and important element in many aspects of life, and its role has come with education.

This year’s back-to-school season brings a new challenge: the impact of ChatGPT and other AI tools on the way we learn and teach.

It has become necessary for both teachers and students to know how to benefit from these tools in the best way without negatively affecting creativity skills and cognitive and intellectual development.

There are several ways teachers can use ChatGPT in their classrooms to facilitate learning and enhance student understanding.

Ways teachers can benefit from ChatGPT in school

1- Know the students’ possible questions about the educational material:

Teachers can use ChatGPT to conduct a virtual conversation with the robot playing the role of a student. This helps teachers prepare for possible questions from students about the subject matter, reduces weaknesses in the way the educational material is presented, and helps teachers improve the way they present information.

The teacher can ask ChatGPT to identify weaknesses in the way lessons are presented or areas that need further strengthening. This can help teachers better prepare for lesson delivery, and reduce the problem of students not understanding the material in the classroom.

2- Preparing tests and teaching plans:

Teachers can use ChatGPT as an aid in formulating tests and teaching plans for different classrooms. This involves first sharing the curriculum with ChatGPT, then requesting the creation of questions and tests around the curriculum, and creating highly effective teaching plans.

Teachers can also use ChatGPT to ensure that questions they write themselves are comprehensive and appropriate to the level of their students. For example: A physics teacher can ask ChatGPT to create five tests that include questions about electrical circuits, and then he can use these questions to get new ideas and customize them to suit the level of the students.

3- Helping non-English speaking students:

ChatGPT is able to write in more than 20 languages, and teachers can take advantage of this feature by encouraging non-English speaking students to enhance their conversational abilities by having conversations with the robot, using it to translate incomprehensible phrases, and to help them improve their ability to write in English.

4- Teaching students critical thinking:

Most students currently use AI tools such as: ChatGPT for research, writing, translation, etc.

Therefore, teachers should teach students how to use the Internet and AI tools responsibly and guide them on the proper way to use these tools while studying.

Any teacher can do this with the help of ChatGPT by requesting that it be used for various researches and reminding them that the answers provided by ChatGPT may not always be reliable and accurate, so they must review them carefully and ensure that the information in them is correct from other reliable sources. This enhances the student’s critical thinking and problem-solving skills. And creativity.
